The mesh coverings are made from flexible curved rods by forming a grid that enables large spaces to be covered more cheaply. Covers are obtained in the shape of a shell with a minimum of material and from very different origins, even from steel rods; they can be assembled and taken down easily; the rods are all of the same length, and the joints are equidistant which are fixed with accessible technologies, they can be put up by hand or with mechanical help, as the mesh is raised so the angle of the grid is transformed, the rods bend and as a consequence rise up. The mesh covers are very flexible, light and easily transportable, they don’t need foundations and can be installed on any type of land.
Yurts are the traditional tents of the nomadic people of Mongolia and are characterized by their ease of putting up and taking down. Yurts can have a diameter of 5 metres with a total weight of approximately 100 Kg and can be put up in three or four hours. They are made up of a wall of wooden strips of some four or five centimeters wide making a scissor mesh which are joined together by articulated knots made from strips of leather. The mesh is laid out in a circular way upon which poles are placed distributed radially and leaning against a central ring which is used as a skylight and for ventilation. The whole combination is covered with felt and/or skins tied to the supporting structure, with various layers depending on the season or the outside temperature. Yurts are the space in which the whole family lives, protected from the winds and the freezing temperatures of the Mongolian tundra, and that are transported here and there in search of the meadows for the cattle. Inside they keep all their belongings that the nomadic life allows them.
